Nomination & Scoring

Stage1
MECOTY provides all the Jurors a standard ‘Nominations Worksheet’ in which they list down the eligible vehicles for each category. The list is then filtered through various shortlisting stages until the final list is locked down for the year.

Stage2
MECOTY then dispatches the scorecards to the Jury, for each vehicle, with monthly submission deadlines. During this stage, the car manufacturers coordinate with the Jury members and arrange test drives campaigns.

Stage3
Once the cars are tested and the final scorecards are submitted by the Jurors, MECOTY collates the points earned by each vehicle and identifies the winning vehicle in each category. The winning vehicles of each category are then pitted against each other for a final battle to win the overall MECOTY title.

AWARD CATEGORIES
MECOTY nominates, shortlists and evaluates hundreds of vehicles annually to select that one vehicle that excels in all innovation and consumer experience based aspects. In order to ensure that all vehicle segments are catered to, the categories are divided into groups & sub-groups. Please refer to the nominations page to view this year’s award categories.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To be eligible for a nomination, a vehicle should be an ‘All-New’ model presented over the previous 06-12 months. Vehicles will be considered, only if they are launched between June (previous year) – June (current year). ‘Face–Lifted’ models with minor or major cosmetic / technological upgrades can also be considered provided that the vehicle’s overall performance is upgraded.

The vehicle must be available ‘in-showroom’ of at least 3 Middle Eastern countries during the initial nominations stage and at least 5 countries during the final voting stage. The nominations stage is held in the first quarter of the year; however, vehicles which are available for sale by the end of the second quarter are also eligible upon the mutual agreement of the Jurors. A vehicle cannot be nominated for more than one category. A Juror has the liberty to not nominate or score any vehicle that he hasn’t test driven.

SCORING CRITERIA
Jurors score the nominated cars on a standard points table system; from a scale of 0 – 5 points; with 0 being the minimum and 5 being the maximum awardable points. The points table ensures accurate, fair and transparent voting. The table reflects the following:
